A January online workshop update from Dr Kate Smith of the University of Hull, with news of the new Coast-R Network webinar series.
Following the success of our in-person Coast-R Network event in Hull in November we were keen to maintain the launch event’s energy and enthusiasm by starting to deliver our ongoing programme of online events. The buzz of meeting in-person has so much to offer, and it was great to see connections being made and re-made in the room, but we also recognise that online activities are often a more accessible, affordable and sustainable way of engaging with the world.
With that in mind, we’ve been working on programme of online activities and webinars, the first of which took place on 22nd January. Welcoming over 30 participants, we shared the latest news from the network and invited leads from the four Resilient Coastal Communities and Seas (ReCCS) programme to present their projects.
The programme includes nearly 100 people drawn from academia, consultancy and policy making, the voluntary sector, and government, so creating opportunities for the ReCCS community to learn from each other is an important part of our planning for the Coast-R Network.
Participants were also invited to share their thinking around what training needs they have as individuals or within project teams – this kind of activity is crucial for co-developing our ongoing activities and has directly shaped the content and scope of our forthcoming webinar series. Attendees highlighted needs around training in media work, working with policy makers and doing transdisciplinary work in ways that are ethical and equitable. All of these themes will shape the training and development that we’ll be offering throughout the lifetime of the Network, and we’ll be targeting the priority themes first so do watch out for future opportunities both online and in-person.
Don’t miss our new webinar series
